Sources knowledgeable about the trip informed CNN that Russia’s principal economic envoy landed in the United States for “official” discussions mere days after President Donald Trump declared stringent fresh penalties against Russia.
As per informants, Kirill Dmitriev, the chief of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and a special emissary of the Kremlin, is slated to convene with delegates from the Trump government “to further conversations concerning US-Russia affairs.”
The journey transpires amidst escalating US discontent with the Kremlin’s unwillingness to cease the conflict in Ukraine and following Trump’s statement that he had called off an intended meeting with his Kremlin peer, Vladimir Putin.
Dmitriev had previously stated that endeavors toward organizing the Trump-Putin assembly had not ceased. According to him, the press is purportedly misrepresenting remarks to impede the leaders from convening.
