Spending time watching a multi-part melodrama that all your friends and acquaintances are talking about is certainly pleasant. But not everyone can afford such a luxury. There are so many seasons and series that you can only get to the finale if you have a vacation. In such situations, mini-series come to the rescue: several episodes lasting from ten minutes to an hour. You can watch them even during breakfast, even on the way to work. We have collected all the mini-series that deserve your attention in our selection.
“In a Quiet Whirlpool” 2019
The plot centers around three heroines, three mothers: Lisa, Kate and Rosa, whose destinies intersect at the gates of the school where their children study. Chaotic businesswoman Lisa barely manages to combine work and personal life. Rosa, who recently lost her own practice as a general practitioner, is forced to save her family on her own after her husband, a gambler, goes bankrupt. Kate's life seems perfect, but only at first glance. One fatal incident will start a chain of events that will bring three families together and force each heroine to reveal the cards hidden up her sleeve. Three differently strong characters will defy circumstances and do anything to protect their loved ones, including from each other.
“Family Marriage” 2019
A middle-aged couple finds themselves on the verge of divorce. Now Louise and Tom visit a therapist every week, each trip to which is also accompanied by a joint visit to the pub. Over glasses of wine and beer, the couple discusses their life together and the accumulated problems, trying to figure out: what brought their relationship to the limit and is it the limit? The main roles in the series were played by Rosamund Pike and Chris O'Dowd.
“Slap” 2015
If you've ever wondered about the butterfly effect in action, then the TV series “The Slap” might be of interest to you. A family barbecue becomes the epicenter of a family drama when a spoiled child receives a good slap from a complete stranger. The consequences of the blow unfold before our eyes: the reputations of both sides of the conflict are ruined, and the offended parents threaten to sue, which puts everyone present at the party in danger, because everyone has something to hide.
“What Does Olivia Know?” 2014
A dramatic series about the life of a school math teacher named Olivia is woven from conversations on sensitive topics such as infidelity, loneliness, depression and mental disorders. The series shows the life of the main character's family over the course of 25 years. The Kitteridges live by honest work and at first glance do not stand out from the background of other residents of a small town in the American wilderness. But Olivia is by no means an ordinary character and hides many skeletons in her closet. She is a straightforward and cruel-hearted sociopath, whose dissatisfaction with life spoils the lives of people dear to her. But at the same time, Olivia is not alien to feelings such as love…
“Mildred Pierce” 2011
A modern interpretation of the story of Mildred Pierce in the format of a mini-series, based on the story of the same name by James Cain. The main character is a wealthy American woman who went through a divorce and was left penniless with children in her arms. To somehow stay afloat, Mildred gets a job as a waitress in a cafe. Her business is so successful that she later opens her own restaurant. A short story of a woman who has gone through a long journey of ups and downs and has collapsed because of her main strength – the ability to mercy and compassion. Children are the center of Mildred's life. Perhaps this is what made them, especially the eldest daughter Veda, so spoiled and insatiable. A complex life drama with a looped plot raises an urgent question: where is the line between love for loved ones and excessive renunciation of one's own interests?
