© Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine For the first time in 34 years, Estonia has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
Ukraine has appealed to the Republic of Korea, which currently holds the presidency of the UN Security Council, to participate in the meeting and present its point of view .
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga wrote about this on the X network on September 21.
“For the first time in 34 years, Estonia has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. This demonstrates the unprecedented scale of the threats that an aggressive Russia poses to the stability of Europe.
“We support friendly Estonia in its calls for a decisive and unified response to Russia's constant destabilization of international peace and security,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy emphasized.
Andriy Sybiga supported the words of the Estonian Minister of Legal Affairs, who wrote:
“By openly violating Estonian airspace, Russia is undermining principles that are vital to the security of all UN member states. When such actions are committed by a permanent member of the Security Council, they should be considered by that same body. Tomorrow's UN Security Council meeting is extremely important.”
As a reminder, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council will be convened on Monday, September 22, due to Russia's violation of the country's airspace. This is the first time in Estonia's 34 years of membership in the UN that Tallinn has requested an emergency meeting of the Security Council.
