Tottenham Hotspur's priority in the final days of the transfer window is to sign a No10 after key targets Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze were missed out on.

Sky Sports News understands that Spurs have shown interest in RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons , but it is little more than interest at this stage with Chelsea considered the frontrunners to sign him.

Lucas Paqueta is a highly-anticipated signing but there is currently no indication West Ham would consider selling him.

Similarly, Morgan Rodgers is another player of interest, but Aston Villa consider him unsellable and there have been no moves for him at the moment.

Gibbs-White was seen as the perfect player for manager Thomas Frank but Spurs insist they could not have done more in what they considered a strange few weeks at Nottingham Forest.

Eze's last-minute move to Arsenal was a huge blow for him for a number of reasons, and the information that emerged after the deal was signed only confirmed why some at Tottenham were never entirely convinced he would play for the club.

Eberechi Eze introduced to Arsenal fans at the Emirates!

Tottenham, as with Gibbs-White, insist they did everything they could to get a deal done. They believed they had an agreement with both Crystal Palace and the player.

Niko Paz is a popular player at Tottenham, but a move for the Como attacking midfielder is considered impossible due to Real Madrid's financial interest in the player. His contract includes a 50% sell-on clause and an £8.7m buy-back option.

Will Spurs sign winger before deadline?

The left flank is another position Spurs are looking at before the transfer window closes and it is no secret they want to sign Savinho .

At the moment, Manchester City do not want to sell the player and will only negotiate if they find a replacement. The target is believed to be Real Madrid 's Rodrigo .

What about defense and midfield?

Hiring a defense attorney is considered the third most important priority.

Frank's approval for Luka Vuskovic to join Hamburg on loan could be a sign that Tottenham are confident of adding a centre-back, ideally a left-footer.

Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Pierrot Hincapie has had admirers at the club but is not a player the club are considering following interest from Arsenal . Given that Franck often plays in a three-man defence, a late move for the experienced defender remains possible.

South American football expert Tim Vickery explains what Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie can bring to Arsenal and why he could be a better fit at Liverpool.

One of the early positives of Frank's tenure has been in midfield. Joao Palhinha has excelled since joining on loan from Bayern Munich and Tottenham were sorely lacking a tough midfielder with good tackles last season.

The midfield trio he formed alongside Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Sarr – arguably the most impressive under Franck to date – played a key role in the impressive win over Manchester City on Saturday.

Spurs are now looking to further strengthen their new manager's options, particularly in the attacking and creative areas, as Frank aims to build on a promising start to his career in north London and prepares for a tough Champions League campaign.
