Iga Swiatek is heading into the US Open with her first Cincinnati Open title and will now focus on winning back-to-back Grand Slam titles after her Wimbledon triumph in July.

Swiatek beat Jasmine Paolini 7-5 6-4 in Cincinnati, a tournament where she had failed to advance past the semifinals in six previous attempts, to claim her 24th career title and 11th WTA Masters 1000 title.

The Polish tennis player will now be aiming to win the US Open again after her success in 2022. Live broadcasts of the tournament will be available on Sky Sports from Sunday until September 7.

The signs could be favorable for Swiatek, as in the last two years, players who have won the women's and men's singles titles in Cincinnati (Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic in 2023, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner in 2024) have also won at Flushing Meadows.

Carlos Alcaraz won this year's men's tournament after world number one Sinner retired with illness while trailing 5-0 in the first set.

Swiatek's Key Moments in Her Cincinnati Triumph

Third seed Swiatek committed seven double faults against Paolini but also hit nine aces to extend her record against the Italian to 6-0.

Swiatek, who came back from 5-3 down to 5-5 after trailing 3-0 in the first set, said after the match: “This means a lot to me. This is something I really wanted this year. I'm just really happy.”

“It's nice to cross another tournament off the list that I haven't won. I have friends here. It's a nice, quiet event before New York.

“This season has not been easy. I have a lot to work on. It is not easy to win tournaments when everyone expects it.”

Paolini added: “When the rallies were going on, I felt confident on the court. The serves decided everything. When she needed an ace, she served it.”

“It was definitely a positive tournament for me. Of course, it wasn't enough. I just need to improve.”
