Ederson remains Manchester City's first-choice goalkeeper – Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has insisted Ederson will remain his first choice goalkeeper at Manchester City amid speculation the Brazilian could move to Turkey.

Ederson is reportedly interested in a move to Galatasaray but City have made it clear they have no intention of parting with the 31-year-old, who has a year left on his contract.

City themselves have been heavily linked with unwanted Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and have already spent £27million to bring back James Trafford from Burnley.

However, when asked who would be in goal for Saturday's Premier League opener against Wolves, Guardiola said it would be Ederson.

“Eddie is number one now,” he said. “He's in good shape, yes.”

City have signed Tijani Reynders, Rayan Ait Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Trafford this summer, as well as reserve goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and youngster Svere Nypane.

However, Guardiola said last season that he would “leave” if the team had too many players and that there was still much work to do to renew the squad.

Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Scott Carson all left the old guard, while Jack Grealish went on loan to Everton and January signing Vitor Reis was loaned out to Girona.

“Pre-season is a dream,” Guardiola said. “We have 40 players, it's not a problem. Pre-season is heaven, 45 players is normal, everyone accepts it.”

“From tomorrow I will have players who are not in the squad – it’s not a problem because they are professionals, but it’s unpleasant.

“You need to (have enough) competition so that everyone has a chance to play on Saturday, then you get the best out of them.

“When you have a lot of players, leaving them at home every week is not efficient. You have to find the right approach.”
