Alan Sheehan says Swansea are planning to grow their club amid rumours Snoop Dogg will become a co-owner.

Alan Sheehan has described the “excitement” that has arisen since Snoop Dogg became part-owner of Swansea City and explained how the Championship club intend to harness the positivity.

Last month, the 53-year-old American rapper became part of a growing list of high-profile investors in British football, joining a group of Swansea City owners that also includes Croatian international Luka Modric.

Award-winning singer Snoop Dogg said Swansea's “underdog” story “really resonated with him,” while his vast social media following – 89 million followers on Instagram and 20.5 million on X – quickly became aware of the Welsh club and his love for the city's Joe's ice cream.

“Having Snoop and Luca in the squad is a massive advantage,” Swansea boss Sheehan said ahead of Saturday's league opener against Middlesbrough.

“Of course, there is a certain enthusiasm. The football club must become more commercially attractive, more competitive and interesting for the whole country.

“Maybe things are different now than when I was a player, but I understand the reasons and I fully support it.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day, but the club has ambitious plans.

“The main thing is to create a solid foundation and develop character and resilience within the club.”

Comparisons with Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are inevitable and are already being made.

The two Welsh clubs became Championship rivals this season after Wrexham became the first team in English football's top five divisions to achieve three consecutive promotions.

A documentary series about life in Swansea, similar to FX's award-winning Welcome to Wrexham, is reportedly already in development.
