The nominees for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, which is awarded to the best football players of the year, have been announced.
Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer and Scott McTominay are the British players nominated for the men's award, while the women's side includes five Lionesses in the tournament: Lucy Bronze, Hannah Hampton, Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo and Leah Williamson .
The men's Ballon d'Or category does not include Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Last year, the pair – winners of all but one of the previous 14 Ballons d'Or – were not shortlisted for the first time.

Other awards will also be presented at the September ceremony, including the men's and women's Kopa Cups for the best young players, and the Yashin Cup for the best goalkeeper.
There are four Premier League goalkeepers in contention for the award, with Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez seeking to lift the trophy for a third year running, joined by Liverpool's Alisson Becker , Arsenal's David Raya and Nottingham Forest's Mats Sels .
Chelsea and England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has also been shortlisted for the Yashin Women's Trophy.

Arsenal are also represented twice on the Kopa Trophy shortlist: in the men's category by Miles Lewis-Skelly and in the women's category by England star Michelle Agyemang .
Chelsea and Liverpool are nominated for the Men's Team of the Year award, while their coaches Enzo Maresca and Arne Slot are also nominated for the Best Manager award.
The same goes for Arsenal and Chelsea in the women's category of the awards, with England coach Sarina Wiegman joining Sonia Bompastor and Renee Slegers on the shortlist for the best coach title.

The 69th annual Ballon d'Or awards ceremony will be held on 22 September 2025 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France.
How is the winner of the Ballon d'Or determined?
The shortlist was compiled by a group of journalists from France Football in collaboration with French sports publication L'Equipe.
The winners of the men's Ballon d'Or are determined by a vote of one journalist from each of the 100 highest-ranked countries in the FIFA rankings.
Each journalist votes for the top 10 players from a list of 30 candidates. The ten players receive 15, 12, 10, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points depending on their position.
