McLaren team-mates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri nearly collided during the second run of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Lando Norris took a double victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, comfortably holding off McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in the second session on Friday.

In the final stage before Formula 1's summer break, Norris was the first to strike at world championship leader Piastri, clocking 1:15.624 to beat the Australian by almost three-tenths of a second.

Piastri extended his lead in what looks set to be a two-race drivers' title battle to 16 points by beating Norris in Belgium last weekend, but the Briton has the advantage at the start at one of his favourite circuits on the calendar.

Although points are not awarded during practice, it was clear that both drivers were pushing themselves to the limit as Piastri and Norris had to react quickly after briefly losing control to avoid crashing into the barriers during the second session.

Norris and Piastri pushed their McLarens to the limit during second practice in Hungary.

There was a strange incident at the end of the session: with the chequered flag already waving, a pair of drivers almost collided at the first corner when Norris was leaving the pits to prepare for a practice start.

Norris said: “The car felt pretty good after the first lap. All the laps were good. The second session was a bit tricky with low and high fuel and I made a few mistakes.”

“It's all part of practice and finding the limits in different areas. Good understanding. I know what I want from the car. It might be a little more difficult to achieve.”

Charles Leclerc was ten seconds behind third-placed Ferrari Piastri, while Lewis Hamilton was a further four-tenths of a second behind his sixth-placed team-mate, behind Aston Martin duo Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso.
