Rory McIlroy two strokes behind club leader at Travelers Championship

Rory McIlroy has impressed with his start to the Travelers, finishing just two shots behind the club leader.

The Masters champion finished tied for 19th at the U.S. Open at Oakmont but ended the weekend on a positive note by going three under par in the final set for the best result of the day.

The Northern Irishman, whose driver was deemed “non-compliant” ahead of the PGA Championship last month and was barred from the Canadian Open, was hoping to improve his results at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell as his attention turns to the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

World No. 2 McIlroy made birdie on the second hole and then added two more birdies before the turn at the final PGA Tour Signature Event of 2025.

He moved up a couple of points and made another birdie on the 17th to finish six under with a 64, tied for second and two behind club leader Austin Acrawt.

American Acrawt produced a remarkable eight-under round, including an eagle on the par-three 15th hole and a sixth birdie on the 18th.

McIlroy's playing partner Keegan Bradley is also six under, one stroke behind at 12th place with 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clarke.
