Jamie Vardy scores 200th Leicester goal in 500th and final game for the Foxes

Jamie Vardy ended his Leicester career in style, scoring his 200th goal in his 500th and final appearance for the club in a 2-0 win over relegated Ipswich Town.

The 38-year-old former England striker ended his Foxes career in style, bidding farewell to the club exactly 13 years after signing for £1m (€1.19m) from Fleetwood.

Vardy leaves behind a significant legacy at Filbert Way, having helped Leicester achieve the 'great escape' from relegation in 2015 and won the Premier League title the following season at 5,000/1 odds and the FA Cup in 2021.

He gave the fans another moment to cheer when he opened the scoring in the 28th minute and then his team-mates formed a guard of honour as he was substituted with 10 minutes remaining, marking the last time he left the pitch in a Leicester shirt.

The 2019-20 Premier League Golden Boot winner had already failed to find the net twice but third time was the charm just before half-time when he expertly fired home his ninth league goal for a side that have struggled to find the net this season.

Casey McAteer gave Leicester the breathing space they have so rarely had during their woeful campaign by extending their lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute, but the game this time was between two teams who will be in the Second Division next season.

For Leicester, relegation to the Championship has not stopped them from celebrating one of the club's greatest players, with a small upturn in recent form giving hope to fans.

Vardy led out Leicester City for the final time at the King Power Stadium, with fans waving “Thank you, Wards” flags in the stands. Two banners were hung outside the goal to mark his final appearance, and the scoreboard read “Goodbye GOAT”.
