According to the company, this is the largest study of its kind in the country. Almost all Internet domains registered by Poles, both in national and global registries, were analyzed.

According to the report, there are around 900,000 websites operating in Poland. Despite the fact that the number of Poles is around 37.5 million, and according to the Central Statistical Office, the number of active companies has reached 2.8 million, domains have been registered by only around 1.2 million unique subscribers. This indicates a low level of digitalization in Poland and a large space for development for hosting companies operating on the Vistula River – we read in the study.

According to the NASK report, at the end of 2024, the number of registered domains in the registry was 2.59 million. If we additionally add domains in the registers maintained by ACK Cyfronet AGH, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, TASK Computer Center and European eu and global domains, the total number of addresses used by Poles is less than 3 million. The number of all subscribers is about 1.2 million, of which there are about 800 thousand business subscribers and about 400 thousand private individuals – the report states.

Registering a domain is a basic step to publishing content online. This allows you to secure a unique address under which your website will later live. Having your own domain increases your professional image and provides stability – unlike social media platforms like Facebook, where content can be removed without warning.

Once registered, a domain can be used to launch a website or handle email, but it can also simply be secured for the future. Some entities register domains solely for speculative purposes, in order to later resell them for profit. As the authors of the report point out, this is a serious problem – speculators buy up attractive addresses, blocking their use and demanding inflated prices for them, reaching even hundreds of thousands of złoty. In response to this practice, many companies protect their brand by registering it in all popular extensions, even if they only use one. Additional domains are usually redirected to the company's main address.

Data on the number of domains is very imprecise information on the number of addresses used to publish WWW services. Only an analysis of DNS entries, SSL certificates protecting domains, and above all the content found after entering each domain in a WWW browser allows us to determine how a given address is used.

Using years of experience in creating top100.webhostingtalk.pl and test2speed.com services, nazwa.pl, a company belonging to NetArt Group, conducted the largest study in Poland, which resulted in this report. A report that shows how much potential lies dormant in the fifth most populous country of the European Union in terms of digitalization and active use of the Internet by companies and individuals.
