A look back at Rory McIlroy's biggest wins: Masters victory cements his Grand Slam title

Rory McIlroy won his fifth major title, completing his career Grand Slam with an impressive victory at the 89th Masters at Augusta National.

The Northern Irishman joined Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as one of the few men to win all four major titles.

In this article, we take a detailed look at each of McIlroy's victories at the biggest events in golf.

2011 US Open, Congress

Two months after McIlroy blew a four-shot lead in the final round of the Masters with an 80 at Augusta National, he took advantage of rainy conditions at Congressional to win by eight strokes, setting a new tournament record at 16 under par. In total, McIlroy set or tied 11 records, following up an opening 65 — the same score he started the Masters with — with rounds of 66, 68 and 69 to leave his rivals in the dust.

2012 US PGA, Kiawah Island

McIlroy's second major title also came by eight strokes, although he didn't do it all himself in South Carolina. An opening 67 left him in trouble before a windy second-round 75 widened his gap to Sweden's Carl Pettersson. Thunderstorms limited McIlroy to just nine holes on Saturday, but he posted a 67 on Sunday morning and then pulled ahead with a closing 66.

The Open 2014, Royal Liverpool

Another comfortable victory awaited Manchester United fan McIlroy on Merseyside, who led by one shot after the first round and extended his advantage to four with a second successive 66. A third round 68 looked to have given McIlroy an insurmountable six-stroke lead, but Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia kept him busy before he won by two strokes to finish
