It seems that one of the obstacles hindering the development of electromobility, the time needed to charge a car, has been removed. All thanks to the new charging system “super e-platforma” designed by BYD.

The new charger, as announced by the Chinese electric car manufacturer, enables charging at 1000 kW. This means that connecting the car to the charger for 5 minutes will then allow it to travel about 400 km.

The Chinese charger enables charging with twice the power of the new V4 supercharger designed by Tesla and the latest charger used in electric cars produced by Mercedes.

The new charging system will be used for now in two models that will hit the Chinese market in the coming months: the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV. BYD will also build 4,000 fast-charging stations in the domestic market.

Not the time but the number of chargers is the problem in Poland

Owners of electric cars in Poland are struggling not only with the time it takes to charge their cars, but also with the ability to connect the car to a charger outside the garage. According to data from the Polish Automotive Industry Association and the Polish New Mobility Association, there were 8,899 charging points in Poland at the end of January 2025. Their number increased by almost half over the year (+47% y/y).

Still, only every third publicly available charger allows you to charge a car with direct current, i.e. in about an hour.

Another problem is the location of charging stations. While there are 643 points in the Silesian province, 539 in the Mazovian province, and over 300 in the Lesser Poland, Greater Poland and Pomerania provinces, there are fewer than a hundred publicly available charging stations in the Świętokrzyskie, Podlaskie, Lublin, Podkarpackie and Opole provinces – mainly in the capitals and largest cities.

A look at the Yanosik application shows that there are currently only 180 electric car charging points on all motorways and expressways in Poland, including 34 near the A1 motorway, 24 near the A2 motorway and 25 near the A4 motorway.
