Roy Keane fears Manchester United have 'a lot to do' before they hit rock bottom

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has expressed concerns his old team have not yet reached their limit and is doubtful of the results of Ruben Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford.

Ahead of Sunday's clash with Arsenal, scores of United fans staged a protest against the club's owners, with United in a dismal 14th place in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes' penalty was saved by Declan Rice as United and Arsenal drew 1-1.

However, commenting before the match, Keane, who captained United to four Premier League titles, said: “The club has been on a downward spiral for a number of years and have they hit rock bottom? There may be more testing ahead.”

“We always talk about giving managers time, but you can't afford to keep losing games. And I would argue that for most clubs, if you keep failing week after week, you start to have doubts in the dressing room.

“Players will start to look at the manager and think, 'What can you offer?' And when you come to a club and there's little to no reaction, it's a bit worrying.”

Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November but United have managed just six league wins since his appointment.

And Keane (53) added: “[United] have serious problems both on and off the pitch and that's well documented.

“There hasn't been any real reaction to the new manager coming in. There have been some injuries but it doesn't look like there will be many goals. Their set-piece game is poor and they're not very dynamic.

“They need to work on rebuilding faith and confidence in the team.”

United return to action with the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The match ended in a 1:1 draw in Spain.
