Fulham knock champions Manchester United out of FA Cup

Manchester United's FA Cup title defence ended at home to Fulham, with Bernd Leno saving penalties from Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee to ensure Marco Silva's side progressed to the quarter-finals via a penalty shootout.

Under Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils had reached the final in both previous seasons but Ruben Amorim's side's ambitions were threatened in the fifth round on Sunday as the Whites reached the last eight for the third time in three seasons.

Leno was a key player for Fulham, making two superb saves in a 4-3 penalty shootout win after full-time and extra-time ended 1-1 in the home quarter-final against Crystal Palace.

The progress was particularly significant given that two years ago Silva was sent off along with Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic in a moment of madness during a disastrous quarter-final at Old Trafford.

Calvin Bassey's stoppage-time goal gave Fulham the lead but Bruno Fernandes came to the rescue of disappointed United fans with a superb equaliser that silenced former captain Roy Keane.

Both teams had chances to win in the fifth round before it went to penalties, with Leno denying Lindelof and Zirkzee to secure a historic win at Old Trafford.
