Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that the Artificial Intelligence Implementation Center is being established in the Polish Army. He assured that for the Polish government, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and investment in the latest technologies are an absolute priority.
On Monday, the head of the Ministry of National Defense took part in a briefing on artificial intelligence in the Polish Armed Forces at the Cyberspace Defense Forces Component Command in Legionowo.
During a later press conference, Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that in order to properly protect Poland, it is necessary to invest in security at various levels. “We must be resilient, disinformation in particular is dangerous, it is one of the strongest weapons used today,” the head of the Ministry of National Defense emphasized.
He assured that for the Polish government, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and investment in cutting-edge technologies are an absolute priority. “These are our main tasks,” he declared.
Kosiniak-Kamysz recalled that the Ministry of National Defense has adopted a strategy for the development of artificial intelligence until 2039, and the next five years will be a key time for Poland's position. He noted that the creation of the Artificial Intelligence Implementation Center is one of the elements of the development of this strategy. He noted that this Center is being created within the Cyberspace Protection Component Command, which is one of the most developed units of this type in NATO.
The Minister of National Defense also pointed out that in a few years no army will be able to function without artificial intelligence. “We are fully aware of this (…), we know well that without implementing artificial intelligence today there will be no possibility of training soldiers, making decisions, logistical activities and conducting operations, managing the battlefield,” he said.
Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk emphasized that Poland has one of the most modern cyber forces in the entire NATO, and the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Implementation Center is “another step towards building our security.”
He added that on average there are 5 thousand attacks on military networks in Poland per year. “Statistically, every two hours there is an attack on Polish military networks and Polish soldiers defend us against this, against the disclosure of sensitive information, against the compromise of our military networks. This is a key task today,” indicated Tomczyk.
The Cyberspace Defense Forces – as reported by the Ministry of National Defense – are a specialized component of the armed forces responsible for ensuring security in another operational domain, which is – in addition to water, land, air and outer space – cyberspace. “The Cyberspace Defense Forces have the ability to carry out a full spectrum of operations – from defensive, through reconnaissance to offensive. Tactical level units are subordinated to the Command of the Cyberspace Defense Forces Component. The Command is also responsible in the Ministry of National Defense for key areas related to cryptology, cybersecurity and the construction and operation of IT systems,” the Ministry of Defense indicated.
