Saturday sport: City and Liverpool draw at the Etihad, Leinster and Munster showdown

Soccer

Manchester City have drawn with Liverpool 1-1 in the Premier League’s lunchtime game at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland put Manchester City ahead in the first half before Trent Alexander-Arnold equalised for the away side in the 80th minute.

Alexis Mac Allister returned from suspension in one of two changes for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds remain just one point behind the league leaders after this afternoon’s game.

Five games get underway at 3pm, with Newcastle’s meeting with Chelsea at St James’ Park the pick of the bunch.

Elsewhere, Burnley face West Ham, Luton take on Crystal Palace, Brighton go to Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United face Bournemouth.

The evening kick-off is an all-London affair between Brentford and Arsenal from 5:30pm.

 

Rugby

Leinster are virtually back to full strength for this evening’s United Rugby Championship derby with Munster at the Aviva Stadium.

The visitors will line out with South Africa’s Jean Kleyn in the second row – but Peter O’Mahony misses out through injury.

Kick off is at 6:30pm.

The first Irish province in action on Saturday is Connacht – they face the Bulls in Pretoria from 3pm Irish time.

Ulster are in Scotland for a meeting with Glasgow from 7.35pm.

 

Boxing

Katie Taylor will look to avenge her defeat to Chantelle Cameron later tonight.

Having suffered defeat in their bout earlier this year, Taylor squares up to the undisputed super lightweight champion once again in Dublin.

The pair are expected on stage at the 3-Arena at approximately half-ten.

 

GAA

Reigning Ulster club football champions Glen will look to keep the defence of their title on track tonight.

The Derry champions face Naomh Conaill of Donegal in a semi-final tie at Healy Park in Omagh, where there’s a 5.30pm start.

In hurling, both Leinster semi-finals are down for decision this afternoon.

Offaly’s Kilcormac Killoughey take on O’Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny in Tullamore at half one.

In Portlaoise at 3pm, it’s Na Fianna of Dublin versus Kildare kingpins Naas.

 

Snooker

Defending champion Mark Allen is among the players in action on day one of the UK Championship in York.

The Antrim native is just getting underway against Ding Junhui in the first round, with the first to six frames set to progress.
