Gowdy third letter to EPA, for the second time this week, specifically requested the Agency provide documentation of the decision to increase Pruitt security details 24-7 work and reports of the visit, the head of conservation, Pasquale Nino Perrotta. Gowdy also asked the EPA to provide documents about the Pruitt trips to Italy and Morocco, which have attracted attention because of the cost, including first class flights for Pruitt.
The letter asks the EPA to schedule an interview with the Committee within five officials on the protection of the environment, including Perrotta and Kevin Hmelevskis, who acted as a whistleblower and sharing new allegations about cost overruns at the Agency with legislators. Gowdy also asked Pruitt chief of staff, Ryan Jackson to meet with the Committee, and two assistants, who are reported to have received substantial raises under a little-known provision of the law On safety of drinking water.
A new letter comes after the GOP staff of the oversight Committee met with Hmelevskiy this week. The Committee would not comment on what was discussed at the meeting.

EPA said that housing is not an illegal gift because Pruitt paid the market value for a room for the night, he was there. But members of Congress and even senior ethics official of the government said they have more questions about the agreement.
Currently, the inspector General of EPA is considering requests to review the lease agreement.
Chmielewski told the group that Pruitt has directed his staff to find reasons for him to return to his home state of Oklahoma, and international travel was determined on the basis Pruitt “a desire to visit different cities,” not official business, legislators, the letter said. The EPA has not responded to a request for comment on these specific allegations.
