Tesla sales fell in the first three months of this year, indicating that Elon Musk's once-booming electric car company is struggling to attract customers.
The 13 percent decline was likely driven by a combination of factors, including an aging model line, competition from other manufacturers and negative perceptions of Mr. Musk's political shift to the right.
It also serves as a warning that the company's first-quarter results, due out later this month, may fall short of investor expectations.
Tesla reported deliveries of 336,681 vehicles worldwide for the January-March quarter.
That was down from 387,000 sales in the same period a year earlier, despite deep discounts, zero-cost financing and other incentives.
Analysts polled by FactSet had expected a significantly higher result of 408,000 deliveries.
