Police continue to question Liverpool parade suspect

Police are still questioning the driver who allegedly drove into crowds at Liverpool Football Club's victory parade.

Merseyside Police said officers had been given extra time to question a 53-year-old man from West Derby, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and drug driving.

The interrogation was extended on Wednesday and will continue until Thursday.

The British Prime Minister visited Liverpool on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the incident with police chiefs.

On the same day, a police spokesman said seven people were in hospital in a stable condition after the collision on Water Street on Monday, and it had been determined that 79 people were injured in the incident.

A long-time Liverpool fan has told Sky News his five-month-old son was thrown 15ft (4.6m) in his pram after they were hit by a car during the parade.

Daniel Everson, 36, told the news agency: “I was trying to hold onto the front of the car and stop it, pushing it, doing everything I could to stop it from hitting my partner and baby.

“My partner got hit and the car ran over her leg and I just jumped out of the way but my boy and his pram were thrown in a completely different direction – about 15ft down the road.”
