Pensioners know that indexation is usually carried out in March, which increases payments for many people. At the same time, this year some pensioners can hope for an increase in payments in October – but not due to indexation, but by receiving basic social support.

The deputy director of the department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, Alena Krasnova, spoke about the mechanism of its action.
According to her, a pilot project was launched in the country on July 1 — providing basic social assistance to low-income families. To receive such payments, low-income families must apply to the Pension Fund. The first payments to program participants began arriving on their accounts on August 1.
Currently, representatives of four categories can apply for a basic social supplement:
- low-income families;
- single mothers;
- large families;
- children who do not receive child support from their parents.
Starting October 1, the circle of recipients will be expanded. Any person who meets the criteria set by the government resolution will be able to apply for assistance. The family's income, financial situation, and property will be taken into account, and the amount of payments will be determined individually.

According to the official, this could be a pensioner with a small pension, a person of working age who does not receive any of the four types of state benefits, as well as virtually any citizen who submits an application.
If a person is not entitled to a pension, he or she receives state social assistance in the amount of UAH 2,361. However, when applying for basic social support, the basic social value of UAH 4,500 per person is applied.
“2,361 UAH is deducted from this amount, and the difference is paid monthly as basic social assistance. Documents will need to be submitted to the Pension Fund starting in October,” Krasnova explained.

As of mid-August, about 1,500 citizens have already applied for a basic social supplement. All applications submitted to the PFU are being processed.
The official gives the following example: in a family where both husband and wife work, the husband will be allocated 4,500 UAH, the wife – 3,100, since she is able-bodied. And for the child – also 4,500. That is, to calculate this benefit, 9 thousand UAH plus 3,100 will be taken. In total – 12,100. That is, this will be a significant benefit for the family. It will be provided monthly.
