Helicopter crashes in Hudson River near Manhattan

A helicopter crashed into the Hudson River near Manhattan on Thursday, local authorities said.

There were no reports of any casualties or deaths.

The fire service said the call about the helicopter in the water was received at 3:17 p.m.

Video footage posted on social media showed the helicopter almost completely submerged and flipping over.

Fire services said rescue teams were at the scene, and video from the scene showed several rescue boats patrolling the area around the downed helicopter.

The rescue vessel was located near the Manhattan waterfront, not far from the end of a long pier that serves one of the Holland Tunnel's ventilation towers.

Fire trucks and other emergency services were stationed on the streets near the scene with sirens blaring.

The skies above Manhattan are constantly filled with airplanes and helicopters.
