Fuel prices behaved unexpectedly: what happened and what to expect

Against the backdrop of a historic increase in fuel prices in Russia, prices for gasoline, diesel fuel, and autogas have decreased at Ukrainian gas stations. The price of gasoline has fallen most noticeably — from 50 kopecks to 1.5 hryvnias.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

This is evidenced by data from the Ministry of Finance portal with prices for Thursday, August 21. At the same time, the most expensive A-95 “premium” costs almost 62 hryvnias per liter, and the cheapest A-92 costs 56.65 hryvnias, and the latter has become cheaper on average by 1.56 hryvnias per liter.

Such a drop in prices seems somewhat surprising, especially against the backdrop of rising oil prices, which on August 22 cost about 0.5% more than the day before — from $63 to $67 per barrel, depending on the brand of “black gold.”

Interestingly, in addition to gasoline and diesel, autogas also fell in price, albeit much more modestly, by only 16 kopecks, or 0.4%, to UAH 34.28 per liter. However, its prices have remained relatively stable all summer, with a slight downward trend — from UAH 34.82 per liter in early June to the current UAH 34.28.

At the same time, gasoline and diesel fuel only became more expensive in the summer, for example, A-95 on June 2 cost 54.5 UAH per liter, while on August 21 it was 58.6 UAH, and on August 20 — 58.9 UAH.

Meanwhile, in October, Ukrainians are predicted to see a serious jump in prices for gasoline and diesel fuel by approximately 3-5 hryvnias per liter, which could lead to an increase in costs by 700 hryvnias per month.
