Ocean Winds emphasized in a statement sent to PAP that signing a contract with Siemens Gamesa for the supply of SG 14-236 wind turbines and the provision of maintenance services is an important step towards the implementation of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm project in the Polish waters of the Baltic Sea.

“The conclusion of the agreement is contingent upon Ocean Winds' decision to commence the investment (Notice to Proceed, NtP). BC-Wind is one of the Phase I projects in the development of offshore wind energy in the Polish waters of the Baltic Sea,” the release stated.

The scope of the contract includes the delivery of 26 wind turbines with a unit capacity of 14 MW, with the possibility of increasing it to 15 MW thanks to the Power Boost function.

“Installation and commissioning of the turbines are expected in 2028. The turbines have an IECRE type certificate, confirming their compliance with international quality and safety standards,” the company said.

The installation port will be Terminal T5 at the Port of Gdańsk, which will serve as a logistics base for pre-installation work and the loading of turbine components. Cadeler will be responsible for transport and installation, using an O-class vessel.

“We are pleased to announce this important milestone for our project in Poland, which represents a key contribution to the country's energy transition. This project not only underscores our commitment to renewable energy, but also confirms that the Baltic Sea is a key market for us,” said Kacper Kostrzewa, Managing Director of Ocean Winds in Poland, as quoted in the press release.

BC-Wind Project Director Pete Geddes explained that the selection of Siemens Gamesa was preceded by, among other things, a detailed analysis of macroeconomic factors. Experience gained during the Moray West project in the UK was also crucial.

“Their technological solution ensures high efficiency, and the concluded contract also includes comprehensive maintenance services, which will guarantee reliability and optimal operating parameters throughout the farm’s operation period,” he emphasized.

BC-Wind is an offshore wind farm project located approximately 23 km north of the coast, bordering the Krokowa and Choczewo municipalities in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The project aims to achieve a planned capacity of 390 MW, with a total farm area of 90.94 square kilometers. This will provide electricity to approximately 488,000 households annually.

Ocean Winds (OW) is an international offshore wind energy company, established as a joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie. The company develops, finances, constructs, and operates offshore wind farm projects worldwide. Since its inception in 2019, OW has significantly expanded its portfolio, which currently comprises nearly 19 GW of gross capacity. (PAP)
