Jetson AGX Thor/Nvidia chip
American technology company Nvidia has announced the start of sales of its new Jetson AGX Thor robotics chip at a price of $3,499 for a developer kit.
As Delo.ua writes, this is reported by CNBC.
The company calls this chip the “brain of the robot” and plans to start shipping the first kits next month.
These chips will enable companies like Agility Robotics, Amazon, and Boston Dynamics to build next-generation robots. After a prototype is developed, Nvidia will sell production Thor T5000 modules, and for large orders (more than 1,000 chips), the price per module will be $2,999.
The Jetson Thor chip is 7.5 times faster than previous models. It is based on the Blackwell architecture used in Nvidia's leading chips for artificial intelligence and gaming.
With 128GB of memory, Jetson AGX Thor is capable of processing large language and visual AI models, which is critical for creating humanoid robots that can interact with the world around them.
CEO Jensen Huang sees robotics as the company's biggest growth opportunity after artificial intelligence. While robotics currently accounts for only about 1% of Nvidia's revenue, the segment is growing rapidly.
The company recently merged its automotive and robotics divisions, which in May reported quarterly sales of $567 million, up 72% from last year.
The company said its Jetson Thor chips could also be used for self-driving cars, especially from Chinese brands.
Nvidia calls its automotive chips Drive AGX, and while they look similar to its robotics chips, they run an operating system called Drive OS that has been customized for automotive needs.
Nvidia representative Deepu Talla emphasized that the company does not manufacture robots or cars, but only provides infrastructure and software for the development of an entire industry.
China has urged companies, including state-owned ones, to avoid using Nvidia's H20 chips, a move that complicates Nvidia's efforts to recoup billions in lost revenue in China after the Trump administration lifted a ban on such sales.
