Around 40 people will lose their jobs at ElectroMobility Poland, where the first Polish electric car was to be built. According to its management, it is necessary to optimize the cost structure – according to information from “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”.
Preparations for group layoffs at ElectroMobility Poland have been ongoing for several weeks, and the company's employees were informed about them before the weekend – reports “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”.
The employment reduction will affect a total of 40 positions in all departments of the company and will cover both employees and associates of the company.
Lack of financing?
“This decision is related to the modification of the project implementation method by ElectroMobility Poland, and thus the need to adapt the profile of positions to future needs. It also results from the prolonged process of obtaining financing, which makes it necessary to optimize the cost structure. This is a very difficult decision for us, but necessary in the current situation,” the company wrote in a statement, quoted by DGP.
An electromobility cluster will be created
ElectroMobility Poland's plans are related to a change in the concept of the Izera project, a Polish electric car. At the end of November 2024, the Minister of State Assets, Jakub Jaworowski, stated that there is currently no possibility of creating such a vehicle. However, talks are underway with the Chinese side about an electromobility cluster that could contribute to the development of this sector in Poland, among others, through international partnerships and cooperation with local industrial partners. Its goal is to provide jobs, transfer technology, localize the supply chain and reduce the investment risk profile.
Will the car factory be built after all?
It turns out, however, that the investment area belonging to ElectroMobility Poland in the Jaworzno Economic Area is still planning to build a factory for large-scale production of cars for the needs of European markets and an innovation centre operating in the area of new mobility.
“The business model being developed and the structure of international and local partnerships are aimed at both implementing a competitive product portfolio and strengthening the entire automotive sector in our country,” wrote company representatives, quoted by DGP.
Decisions regarding financing of this concept are to be made in the coming months.
