The new Russian strike UAV “Geran-5”: features and characteristics
The War&Sanctions portal has published a detailed analysis of the new Russian strike drone “Geran-5”: an interactive 3D model of the drone, components, electronic component base, and main tactical and technical characteristics.
Military intelligence revealed the first photos and basic details of this UAV last week.
The drone resembles the Iranian Karrar, most of the blocks are identical to similar blocks from other Alabug “Geraniums”, and the enemy is working on the possibility of launching the drone from a Su-25 attack aircraft.
A full technical portrait of the enemy's development is currently being released.
Main characteristics of “Gerani-5”:
-
full take-off weight — 850 kg;
-
cruising speed — 450–600 km/h, which significantly exceeds the performance of the “Gerani-3”;
-
flight duration – about 2 hours;
-
estimated range — up to 950 km;
-
maximum altitude — 6 km (actually recorded use — from 200 m to 3 km).
The power plant uses a Chinese TELEFLY TF-TJ2000A turbojet engine with a thrust of 200 kgf (1960 newtons).

“Geranium-5”
The drone has components similar to other “Geraniums”: an FCU flight controller, a SADRA/MINSOO inertial navigation system, a Comet-M12 satellite navigation system with a 12-element CRP antenna, a Tracker V3 telemetry data transmission system based on a Raspberry microcomputer and 3G/LTE modems, a Xingkai Tech XK-F358 MESH modem, etc.
The fuselage skin, wings, and tail are made of carbon fiber, and the power structure is made of aluminum profile and iron.

To mark the devices, the Russians use the experimental “E” series, similar to the Gerani-2 modifications with R-60 missiles and MANPADS.
The identified electronic component base originates from three countries – China, the USA and Germany. A full list of components, their markings and photos can be found at the link.
The GUR also published another 105 foreign-made electronic components identified in the Geran-2 UAVs, the Zala T-20, and the Kh-32 air-to-surface cruise missile used by Russia.
The expansion of the range of Russian weapons of mass destruction made according to Iranian prototypes, as well as the continued use of the component base of manufacturers from countries of the free world, indicates the need to strengthen efforts to block aggressor states' access to technologies, the GUR emphasized.
