Daryl Janmaat played 34 matches for the Netherlands national team.

When Janmaat ended his football career in 2022 after a botched knee injection, he found himself in a deep hole. Part of it was the loss of the structure of his daily life, he explains in the film. According to the former footballer, he has undergone treatment for addiction and is now doing well, although his broken family is no longer in his element.

“I have three children who also hear and read everything,” Daryl Janmaat said in the film. “I can't and don't want to go into all the details, but my cocaine addiction caused me a lot of suffering. A knee injury broke everything. After the injection, everything went wrong – my career was over. I couldn't cope with it.

Suddenly I lost the stability I had had for years as a football player. It was hard.

Gradually, cocaine addiction crept in. You start lying to the people you love. It's horrible. I hurt a lot of people and I was deeply addicted, very deeply. There were times when I felt really, really bad, let's leave it at that.

“I'm still officially married, but Yoshi and I are no longer together. The relationship wasn't going very well anyway, but this addiction obviously didn't help matters.”
