Ukrainian world and European champion, outstanding chess player Yuriy Anikeyev, 42, who was tried to be disqualified because of… his vyshyvanka, has been decided to be mobilized into the assault troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was announced by Verkhovna Rada deputy Heorhiy Mazurashu, who called for finding a more effective use for the “Ukrainian chess treasure” in the army.
VIDEO OF THE DAY
“Meet the “storm trooper” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Volodymyrovych Anikeev. The 17th world champion of the FMZ in checkers-100 and the 11th world champion in checkers-64. Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine. Mobilized. But so far, our system has not had enough wisdom or adequacy to use this one of the smartest Ukrainians in the world as the “brain” of the Defense Forces, and sent him to the storm troopers.
Please show wisdom! Help us to transfer this Ukrainian draughts treasure from “stormtroopers” (where such people have no place, where using “such people” = destruction…) to a position where the world draughts champion can be really as effective as possible for the benefit of Ukraine!!!” — wrote Mazurashu on his Facebook page.

We should add that in 2023, two-time European champion Anikeev became the first Ukrainian to win the Men's Draughts-100 World Championship, and before that, the Kharkiv resident had won the Draughts-64 World Championship three times.
By the way, the International Draughts Federation (FMJD) has already sent an appeal to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, and the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matviy Bidny, signed by the President of the FMJD Janek Myaggi and the President of the EDC (European Draughts Confederation) Carlo Bordini, requesting the return of Yuriy Anikeyev to the Ukrainian national team and ensuring his participation in the upcoming world-class competitions.
Previously, “FACTS” reported that Yuriy Anikeev helped the Ukrainian national team beat… five Russian teams and win the “gold” of the World Team Championship.
