2.40 Chester – Tabletalk clash with Alsakib and Prydwen

The Virgin Bet Chester Stakes starts at Roodee on Saturday, with Tabletalk taking on Alsakib and co.

Tom Clover's stable star Tabletalk returns here after a six-week break having finished third in the John Smith's Silver Cup Stakes. Where he couldn't match Al-Karim. He hasn't broken through for a year now, but is moving up to Listed class for the first time since last October, and that could help him get back to winning ways.

Alsakib arrives here on a mission of revival after a poor showing at York in June, where the gelding was reported to have struggled in the faster racing conditions. Andrew Balding's charge is in good form, having won and run well in the Ormond Stakes on his only two visits here, and looks set for another bold attempt this afternoon.

  • Venetian sun shines against foals in Prix Morny

Prydwen is also on the path to a revival having failed to get ahead in 2025 after a fruitful 2024. He was last seen finishing at the back of the field in the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot and now has a few questions to answer, but a return to his peak form would see him move closer to victory.

4.52 Deauville – Exciting battle at Deauville Grand Prix

Sibayan won the Prix Maurice de Nieuil at ParisLongchamp by a narrow margin last month and Francis-Henri Graffard's rider looks set to add more victories as he leads a talented field in the Group Two Lucien Barriere Grand Prix at Deauville.

Blame's son will have to take a beating for this latest success, but overall he has an improving profile and it's possible we haven't seen his best yet.

Marquise was in fine form in Group Three company at Deauville, returning to the field with a burst of speed and denying Simka Milla a four-length. He has also shown excellent Group One form here, having been beaten less than five lengths in the Hong Kong Vase in his penultimate start. He has shown little to show for himself so far and looks set to make further strides.

The New Ground was the main attraction of the Epsom Derby, but things didn't go as planned at the Paris Grand Prix. in July, but he finished ahead of rival Uther , and his supporters hope they have only scratched the surface of his potential.

Uther is a half-brother to top horse Sozi and after the aforementioned ParisLongchamp performance he subsequently chased Marquis over this course and distance last time out and he is another horse who has always shown great promise so his top result will not be a surprise.

Completing the line-up is the talented pairing of Casapueblo and Sunway, who are undoubtedly in top form.
