
Legendary former England striker and two-time Ballon d'Or winner Kevin Keegan, 74, has been diagnosed with cancer, his former club Newcastle has announced. Earlier it was reported that the Bulgarian football legend is fighting for his life in a clinic in Germany.

“Kevin was recently hospitalized for further evaluation regarding persistent abdominal pain,” Keegan's family said in a statement. “This evaluation revealed that Kevin has cancer and will be receiving treatment.”
The forward played for Liverpool for six years, winning three Premier League titles (1973, 1976, 1977), two UEFA Cups (1973, 1976) and the European Cup (1977), as well as scoring 68 goals in 230 matches. His career then included three stellar seasons with German club Hamburg. In 1978 and 1979, Keegan won the Ballon d'Or for the best player in Europe.

After returning to his homeland, the footballer still managed to play for Newcastle and Southampton.
Kevin Keegan played 63 matches for England, scoring 21 goals.
