
Another representative of Ukrainian sports has died in the war against the Russian occupiers. Ukrainian boxing champion Volodymyr Yushchenko was killed in fighting near the village of Nova Tokmachka in the Zaporizhia region, the NOC of Ukraine reported.

“Volodymyr Yushchenko is a Master of Sports of Ukraine in boxing, a prize-winner of the European Championships. With the beginning of a full-scale war, he without hesitation stood up for the defense of Ukraine in the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in the Zaporizhia direction. He died in the area of Malaya Tokmachka. The defender was 36 years old,” the report says.

Volodymyr Yushchenko was born in the village of Tinky (Cherkasy district, Cherkasy region). He was a silver medalist at the European Championship in Serbia and a bronze medalist at the Continental Championship in Hungary, as well as the champion of Ukraine among schoolchildren, juniors and youth.

At one time, he graduated from the Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Cherkasy National University and the Educational and Scientific Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Health.
Yushchenko's coach was Andriy Malovany, with whom the athlete went from his first victories at the national level to medals in international tournaments.
