
Assistant head coach of the Polish national football team Jacek Magera, who, together with the “squad”, failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, died suddenly at the age of 49, the official website of the Polish Football Union reports.

The specialist fainted while jogging the previous morning. Mager was immediately resuscitated and taken to the Military Clinical Hospital in Wrocław, but his life could not be saved.
“Coach, everything should have been different… I express my condolences to the family and loved ones,” wrote the leader of the Polish national team, Robert Lewandowski, on social networks.

A graduate of Rakuwa Częstochowa, Jacek Magera played for Polish side Legia Warsaw from 1997 to 2006, winning two league titles, the Polish Cup, the Polish Super Cup and the Polish League Cup. He also played for Widzew, Rakuwa and Kraków, finishing his career in the Polish top flight with 233 appearances and 25 goals.
The midfielder also played for Poland's youth and youth national teams. In particular, with the U16 team, Magera won the European Championship in 1993, and a few months later he was the captain of the U17 team, which took fourth place at the World Cup.
In the coaching field, Jacek Magera led Legia, with whom he became a two-time Polish champion and played in the Champions League, the Polish U20 and U19 national teams, as well as Śląsk, with whom he won the “silver” of the national championship. In July 2025, the specialist became the second coach of the Polish national team in Jan Urban's staff.

Jacek Magera has been married to Magdalena since 2011. He has two children, 14-year-old Malgorzata and 12-year-old Jan. We should add that the coach's older brother is Polsat Sport commentator Marek Magera.
