In the second round match, the 31-year-old Odessa player defeated the former world number two, the 28-year-old Spaniard Paula Badosa, who was born in the USA. After the Ukrainian won the first set 6:4 (Elina was trailing -1:4 during the game), her opponent refused to fight. The score of the personal meetings of the rivals was 3:0 in favor of the Ukrainian. At the same time, Elina defeated the tennis player from Spain for the sixth time in a row.

Reaching the third round of the tournament brought Svitolina $49,250 in prize money and 120 rating points. Elina, who won 12 out of 14 matches in 2026, will challenge for a place in the quarterfinals of the competition in a duel with Swiss Belinda Bencic (13th), who won a technical victory over Czech Sara Beilek (41st) without a fight.

We should add that this is Elina Svitolina's 11th time playing in Dubai. The Ukrainian has won the title here twice – in 2017 and 2018, and she has also reached the semifinals twice – in 2016 and 2019.
