Sunday sport: Dublin beat 14-man Galway to reach Leinster final vs Kilkenny

Sunday’s games in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship are all over.

Kilkenny have beaten Wexford by a point with a final score of 1-24 to 2-20, as The Cats have reached the provincial decider.

Elsewhere, 14-man Galway were beaten by Dublin by a score of 2-27 to 1-24 in Salthill. It is the first time Dublin have reached the final since 2021.

And they finished Antrim 4-22 to Carlow’s 2-22 in the relegation play-off at Corrigan Park.

As a result, Carlow will be heading for the Joe McDonagh Cup next season.

All Ireland champions Limerick will be looking to book their spot in the Munster final this afternoon.

They face Waterford at 4pm in the Gaelic Grounds.

A Waterford win and they would progress beyond the provincial stage for the first time since 2021.

Tipp and Clare meet at Semple Stadium meanwhile, will throw in also at 4pm.

 

 

Soccer

Leeds boss Daniel Farke will look to get the better of his former player Russell Martin in this afternoon’s Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Southampton manager Martin was captain during Farke’s previous spell in charge of Norwich.

The German had a feeling he’d end up facing him on the touchline one day.

That game has just kicked off in London.

 

Tennis

The French Open has gotten underway at Roland Garros in Paris.

Men’s 6th seed Andrey Rublev beat Japan’s Taro Daniel 3-sets-to-1.

Elsewhere, last year’s beaten semi-finalist Carlos Alcaraz leads JJ Wolf of the United States by 2 sets to love so far.

And Andy Murray meets old foe Stan Wawrinka in the evening session.

In the women’s draw, Naomi Osaka beat Lucia Bronzetti of Italy 2-sets-to-1.

 

Cycling

Tadej Pogacar will be crowned Giro d’Italia champion.

The Slovenian goes into today’s final stage – which is a procession into Rome – with an overall lead of nine minutes and 57 seconds.

 

Racing

Sunday’s racing at the Curragh has gotten underway with an eight-race card taking place.

The Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas is the feature race with Aidan O’Brien’s ‘Opera Singer’ likely to be the favourite when that goes to post at 3:45pm.
