Scottie Scheffler tied the PGA Tour's worst 72-hole total with an eight-shot victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The world number one, who set the pace after opening with 61, closed with 63, finishing 31 points under par on 253, equalling the record of Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg.
He came close to setting a new record but suffered a setback on the 17th hole due to a faulty chip and was unable to convert an eight-foot birdie putt on the final hole.
Scheffler had five birdies and one eagle on his first half of the course as his lead never dipped below six strokes in the final round.
The match ended as it began, with an eight-point lead, with South Africa's Erik van Rooyen also scoring 63 points to be the only player trailing by 10 points.
Fellow American Sam Stevens is three strokes back in third place, while Jordan Spieth moved into fourth place after making nine birdies in his final 62.
Scheffler had nine wins last season, but he has yet to add to that tally in 2025 after missing the start of the season due to surgery on a hand injury he suffered while preparing Christmas dinner.
However, after a tied for second at the Houston Open and then a fourth-place finish at Augusta National to defend his Masters title, he snapped that streak in style at the tournament where he made his PGA Tour debut as a 17-year-old amateur in 2014.
“This tournament means a lot to me,” Scheffler, who is from nearby Dallas, told CBS. “It was my first tournament 11 years ago, and my sister was my caddie.
“It seems like a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice has been made for these little moments, and they really do have a special meaning.”
