Scotland relegated from Nations League top flight after heavy defeat to Greece

Scotland exited the Nations League A after a 3-0 home defeat to Greece.

Steve Clarke's side started the match confidently but goals from Giannis Konstantelias, Konstantinos Karetsas and Christos Tzolis gave the visitors a 3-1 lead on aggregate just 15 seconds from the end of the second half.

Fans at Hampden expressed their displeasure on several occasions as Scotland failed to turn the game around.

They will now be relegated to the tournament's second tier ahead of the next group matches in autumn 2026.

Ryan Christie returned to the Scotland squad after being suspended, while Lewis Ferguson was the only player to leave the team after the 1-0 win in the first leg.

Greece made six changes, including the first appearance in the starting lineup of Karetsas, the 17-year-old winger whose introduction helped swing the game in Greece's favour in the second half on Thursday.

Sir Alex Ferguson took to the pitch before the match wearing the No 10 shirt in tribute to Denis Law, after which the Scottish record goalscorer was given a minute's applause in his first home international since his death.

The hosts started the match with attacking actions.

Che Adams' penalty request was turned down and Scott McTominay's corner from Kenny McLean was saved.

Andy Robertson soon fired wide and McTominay saw the ball bounce into the side netting.

However, in the 20th minute Greece equalized the score with their first significant attack.
