PSG sign Bournemouth defender Ilya Zabarnyi for £54.5m

Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of defender Ilya Zabarnyy from Bournemouth.

The Ukraine international has signed a five-year deal with the European champions, with the deal reportedly worth an initial £54.5million, plus £2.6million in performance bonuses.

Zabarnyi, 22, joined the Cherries in January 2023 from Dynamo Kyiv and has made 86 appearances for the Premier League side across all competitions.

“I am very happy to be part of Paris Saint-Germain, the greatest club in the world with an outstanding project,” he said on the Ligue 1 club's website.

“I'm here to give everything on the pitch and I'm looking forward to making my debut and meeting the fans.”

Zabarnyi became the third first-team defender to leave Bournemouth this summer following Dean Heysen's £50million move to Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez's £40million move to Liverpool.

During his time on the south coast he played a key role in two successive record-breaking finishes, twice helping Andoni Iraola's side surpass the club's previous Premier League points record.

The Kyiv-born centre-back, who has played 49 matches for the national team, was voted the Cherries' player of the season for 2023-24 by fans.

In May, PSG won the Champions League for the first time, beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich.

Luis Enrique's French champions, who also signed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier in the current transfer window, face Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday before beginning their title defence away to Nantes on Sunday.

PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “Illya is a talented international player and a true professional.

“He will make a significant contribution to what we are building in the long term at Paris Saint-Germain.”
