Premier League clubs have agreed to use the FIFA-mandated transfer window opening early this summer, which could give Real Madrid the opportunity to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the Club World Cup.
English top-flight teams will now be able to sign and retain players in a special window between June 1 and 10.
This unique registration period was approved by the FIFA Council last October and is open to any national association whose clubs are participating in this summer's Club World Cup, which begins on June 14.

That could allow Real to register Alexander-Arnold for the US tournament if La Liga also opens an early transfer window, amid rumours the Liverpool defender has reached an agreement with the reigning European champions.
FIFA rules limit transfer windows during the closed season to a maximum of 12 weeks, so the Premier League transfer window will close again from 11-15 June, before reopening on 16 June and running until Monday 1 September.
The 2024 summer transfer window starts on June 14.
