Cycling is a good way to maintain health, but not everyone can engage in such activity, neurologists have warned, Ukr.Media reports.
First of all, cycling is contraindicated for people with severe, decompensated cardiovascular diseases: ischemic heart disease, unstable hypertension, and a recent heart attack, doctors said.
They clarified that intense exercise can provoke paroxysms of arrhythmia or an attack of angina. In addition, cycling is contraindicated for joint diseases, since during activity a large load falls on the hip and knee joints.
In progressive osteoarthritis, the load on articular cartilage increases its destruction, experts have warned.
Neurologists added that it is also worth being more careful with intervertebral hernias, especially in the lumbar region. Incorrect posture and axial load can provoke or increase compression of the nerve roots.
Cycling is prohibited for varicose veins and thrombophlebitis of the lower extremities without flotation, but is possible with the use of compression hosiery.
But if you have vestibular disorders, it is better to give up cycling altogether, as loss of balance can lead to falls and injuries. It is also undesirable to ride a bike if you have epilepsy, especially on sunny days, experts have warned.
People with chronic diseases should consult a doctor before active cycling.
