Martin Odegaard urges Arsenal to learn from Champions League tragedy

Martin Odegaard stresses Arsenal must remain united after a “difficult” Champions League exit that left them trophyless for another season.

Arsenal's chances of lifting the trophy and winning their first Champions League title were dashed on Wednesday after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their semi-final at the Parc des Princes.

The Gunners had already trailed by a goal in the semi-final and, despite two superb saves from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the opening 15 minutes, they were in even more trouble when Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring on 27 minutes.

Achraf Hakimi sealed the game in the second half before Bukayo Saka scored a consolation goal after a 3-1 aggregate defeat.

Manager Mikel Arteta said the defeat had left his players in tears.

Captain Odegaard said: “It's very painful, to be honest. We started the match very confidently, controlled the game and created some important moments.

“But as before, it is in the penalty areas that the games are decided and we were not good enough. Here we need to be more aggressive and cool-headed and not let in the goals that we have been conceding in the past.

“We have to stay together, support each other and learn from this experience.”
