Manchester United use criticism to spur their efforts and achieve quick success – Mason Mount

Mason Mount reports Manchester United are reaching out to critics and doubters to step up their efforts and rebuild ties after a disappointing season.

All eyes will be on Old Trafford this Sunday as a resurgent Red Devils take on Arsenal in the most exciting Premier League clash of the weekend.

Last season, United finished 15th – their lowest top-flight finish for 51 years – and suffered defeat in the Europa League final to cap a disappointing and costly campaign.

Mount knows the team “need to give back” to United fans, who are likely to head to Sunday's game in a mood of optimism after a successful summer and impressive signings.

“This is a new page and we are very happy that we have this opportunity,” the midfielder noted.

“A lot of people have said a lot of good things about us as a team and we use that energy most productively on the pitch, against other teams, and really compete and fight for those three points.”

Mount insists the players “want to get things right” and are looking forward to the challenge of taking on the Premier League runners-up last season this weekend.

“Every game we go into we'll be focused on putting in a great performance and really showcasing and fixing what's gone wrong this season,” he told Inside United.

“We will be taking great care in every game to maintain the highest level of performance and attention to detail.

“If you start with this game, it can't get any better.”

United have been strengthened ahead of the season by the arrival of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Cesko last week in a deal worth up to £73.7million.

It remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old will be ready to start against Arsenal but he brings fresh energy and goals to the squad, with other high-profile newcomers such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arriving this summer.

“I think it's really important for us to start well, to start quickly, with that intensity,” Mount said.

“We are a team that can definitely attack and win
