Manchester United must back Ruben Amorim and keep Bruno Fernandes – David Beckham

David Beckham has said Manchester United must back Ruben Amorim this summer and has expressed displeasure at the idea of selling valuable players such as Bruno Fernandes to help restructure the club.

The Portugal manager replaced Erik ten Hag in November, leading to the club's worst ever Premier League performance, with the Red Devils sitting 16th with just 39 points with just one game remaining in the season.

However, Wednesday's Europa League final against Tottenham offers a chance to salvage the season as trophies and vital Champions League qualification are up for grabs in Bilbao.

It could provide a much-needed boost to both morale and finances at the club, which Beckham hopes will back “a very good manager” Amorim to “make the necessary changes”.

“I think Ruben definitely needs support to get the players he wants but I'm not really sure how feasible that is,” the former United and England midfielder told The Athletic.

“I don't speak to (minority member Sir) Jim (Ratcliffe) much, just occasionally.

“Ruben needs support as a manager so he can bring in his team and his philosophy; he is already trying to do that, but I am sure that once he brings in his team and players, you will see something new.”

United are keen to sign a range of players and long-term target Matheus Cunha is reportedly set to join from Wolves as the club look at other summer transfers.
