Manchester United are close to signing Benjamin Cesco after agreeing a deal worth up to £73.7million with RB Leipzig, according to the PA news agency.
The talented 22-year-old striker has been the subject of intense competition as the Red Devils and Newcastle look to bolster their attacks ahead of the new season.
Cesc has made it clear to United that he would prefer a move to them over the Magpies and PA understands they have already agreed a deal with Leipzig worth €76.5m (£66.3m) plus a potential €8.5m (£7.4m) in add-ons.
The Slovenia international has been cleared to travel to Manchester for a medical and to complete his move.
Seško scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and has been on the Red Devils' radar for some time now, since his move from Domžale to RB Salzburg in 2019.
This summer, Newcastle made the first move and responded to the initial offer being rejected by offering an improved version of €82.5m (£71.9m) plus €2.5m (£2.2m) in add-ons.
Ruben Amorim's Red Devils bided their time and made a rival bid of €75m (£65.4m) plus a potential €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons.
The terms were subsequently adjusted and United paid slightly more as a down payment as part of a deal in principle agreed with Leipzig.
Cesko will be the fourth signing of the summer as United look to bounce back after finishing 15th last season – their worst top-flight campaign for 51 years – and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.
Matheus Cunha joined from Wolves for £62.5m while Bryan Mbeumo left Brentford for an initial fee of £65m, which could increase by a further £6m if certain team and player terms are agreed.
Young defender Diego Leon also joined United after a deal was completed from Cerro Porteño in January.
