According to the publication, the former Shakhtar and Dynamo coach was talking to the players during a theoretical lesson before training, but suddenly fell silent, sat down on a chair and stopped breathing.
The team's medical staff provided first aid to the coach, after which the ambulance that arrived took Lucescu to the University Clinic in Bucharest. Doctors diagnosed the veteran of the coaching staff (Lucescu is the oldest coach in the history of national teams) with a heart rhythm disorder and left him in the hospital.
“I feel good, I have fully recovered, but I am still undergoing some tests, so I will remain in the hospital,” Mircea Lucescu said in a comment to GSP.
By the way, the wife of the head coach of the Romanian national team, who lost to Turkey (0:1) in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup qualifying play-offs and was left without a ticket to the World Cup, reacted to the man's emergency hospitalization.

“This morning he left the house in perfect order, feeling fine. I don't know exactly what happened. It's probably the effects of emotions and anger after the match in Istanbul. Plus this terrible weather outside the window.
“Our son Razvan called me from Greece to tell me the news. He was also very worried, which is not surprising. We are waiting for information from the hospital, we hope that everything will be fine with him,” the publication quotes Neli Lucescu .
We should add that on the evening of March 29, Mircea Lucescu was supposed to leave with the national team for a friendly match in Slovakia, which was supposed to be the last in his long-term coaching career. But, apparently, he will watch the broadcast from Bratislava on TV.
