LOI: Shelbourne extend lead at the top despite late goal denying them win over Drogheda

The nine men of Shelbourne extended their lead at the top of the League of Ireland after a 1-1 draw against Drogheda United.

Tyreke Wilson put the Dublin side ahead as they looked like they were going to go four points clear, but Douglas James-Taylor’s late goal gave Drogheda a vital point.

Damien Duff’s side had two players sent off, with red cards for Wilson and Patrick Barett.

Derry City failed to take advantage of Shelbourne dropping points as they lost 2-1 away to Sligo Rovers.

Paul McMullan put Derry City ahead in the 54th minute, but the lead only lasted seven minutes, with Ellis Chapman equalising from the spot.

Chapman then scored the winner in the 89th minute to secure victory for Sligo. There is now three points between Shelbourne and Derry City.

Waterford United kept up their impressive season with a 1-0 win over St Patrick’s Athletic.

Ben McCormack scored the only goal of the game as Waterford’s push for European football continues.

Shamrock Rovers remain 15 points behind leaders Shelbourne following a 1-0 win over Dundalk.

Johnny Kenny scored the winner after 29 minutes, as Dundalk remain in the relegation play-off place.

In the other game of the night, it finished all-square between Galway United and Bohemians in a 1-1 draw.

Dayle Rooney put Bohemians ahead after just four minutes, with Rob Slevin bringing Galway level in the 50th minute.
