Liverpool celebrate title on ice, Arsenal draw with Crystal Palace

Arsenal denied Liverpool the Premier League title without a single shot on target despite conceding a late goal in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

Mikel Arteta's men knew defeat at the Emirates would hand the title to Liverpool, but the home side opened the scoring after just three minutes through Jakub Kiwior.

Eberechi Eze's fine corner lifted Palace to new heights before Leandro Trossard scored his third goal in two games to restore Arsenal's lead.

Arsenal looked set to take all three points but William Saliba's wide pass allowed substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta to score seven minutes from time.

Arsenal are 12 points behind Liverpool and with points level with four games remaining, Arne Sloth's side can seal the title with a draw with Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

Arsenal now turn their attention to next week's Champions League semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain, while Palace face Aston Villa at Wembley on Saturday for a place in the FA Cup final.

Arsenal's title chances have long since disappeared and they look set to finish second for a third successive season. But Arteta and his side were likely desperate to avoid handing the title to Liverpool by losing to Palace.

Bukayo Saka was benched six days before the PSG game but Arsenal opened the scoring after just 145 seconds.

Kivior broke free from the Palace defence and, unmarked, got to Martin Odegaard's free-kick to score only the third goal of his Arsenal career.

To their credit, Palace responded with a worthy effort, with former Arsenal man Eddie Nketiah heading wide from a corner before attempting a shot he could have done better. However, Palace were soon level when Eze produced a moment of magic.

Standing unmarked on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area, Eze volleyed home Adam Wharton's corner, the ball bouncing off the ground and into the net, past David Raya's post.

Palace surged forward and Nketiah nearly gave the visitors the lead when he broke free from Kivior's grasp, but his shot hit the Pole's outstretched leg.

Thomas Partey's suspension could allow Mikel Merino, who was absent from the Arsenal squad, to return to midfield for the PSG game and give Trossard the opportunity to lead the attack.

Following his brace against Ipswich on Sunday, Trossard was back among the scorers three minutes before the break when he collected a pass from Jurrien Timbert and fired a shot that deflected just off Maxence Lacroix's studs past Dean Henderson. The former Brighton man egged on the Palace fans by putting his ear in their direction.

Raya came into the game after the break, keeping out Justin Devenney's shot and then keeping out Marc Guehi's header from a corner.

At the other end of the pitch, Gabriel Martinelli was awarded a goal after Timber failed to hold on to the ball and passed it to a teammate.

Substitute Saka attempted a side-kick from Martinelli but Henderson saved with 10 minutes remaining, although the scores soon changed again when Palace equalised.

Mateta intercepted Saliba's pass to Odegaard and the striker, who had just come on, spotted Raya out of position and then produced a superb strike, lobbing the ball over the Spaniard's head.
