Leicester end losing streak with draw at Brighton

Embattled Leicester scored their first goal in nine Premier League games to end an eight-game losing streak with a 2-2 draw away to Brighton.

Caleb Okolie's first goal in English football earned the Foxes a deserved point at the Amex Stadium after Stephie Mavididi opened the scoring to become the club's first top-flight scorer in 798 minutes of play with a first-half equaliser.

Joao Pedro converted two VAR-awarded penalties to twice give Brighton the lead.

However, the ninth-placed Seagulls, facing renewed challenges in their bid for European qualification after a string of defeats, have paid a high price for missed opportunities and could easily have gone down.

Leicester controlled the game late on and hit the post three minutes from time when Bilal El Hanous fired wide.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's side are 14 points adrift of safety in the second-bottom table and need just 18 points to secure a result that will ensure they are not relegated this weekend.

Under pressure, coach Van Nistelrooy vows to fight ahead of trip to south coast.

The Dutchman replaced Okolie and Mavididi as part of three changes to a side that started with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Newcastle, while Yacine Ayari, Simon Adingra and Pedro were included in the Brighton side that lost 2-1 at bitter rivals Crystal Palace.

Yankuba Minteh failed to get a clear shot on target and Fox goalkeeper Mads Hermansen saved Adingra's effort as Brighton created a number of early problems.

Leicester looked uncertain at the back but remained dangerous on the counter.

Speedy striker Mavididi, whose early shot was blocked by makeshift Chaika centre-back Carlos Baleba, opened the scoring again but the visitors' defence was breached on 31 minutes.

Foxes defender Conor Coady parried Adingra's shot with his left hand inside the box and after a VAR check Pedro sent Hermansen the wrong way to slot the penalty into the bottom left corner.

Albion captain Lewis Dunk then produced a superb block to deny Luke Thomas an equaliser.

However, after Adingra had clipped the ball off the top of the Leicester crossbar, Dunk made a mistake as the visitors responded seven minutes before the break.

The centre-back mishandled the ball in the centre circle, allowing El Hannouss, who had previously scored the winner in a 2-1 win over Tottenham on January 26, to break ahead and round Mavididi, firing a low shot past Bart Verbruggen after his initial cross was blocked.

Pedro missed the target and Matt O'Reilly hit the base of the right post as Brighton tried to regain their lead.

At the other end, Verbruggen had to save a header from Thomas Casey McAteer's free kick which went over the crossbar.

Brighton restored their lead 10 minutes into the second half.

Thomas pulled O'Reilly back into the box and after another VAR intervention, Pedro confidently sent the ball into the top right corner.

Van Nistelrooy responded with a triple substitution and after substitute Patson Daka forced a fine save from Verbruggen, his side levelled again.

El Hannouss took a superb free-kick from the right and Italian defender Okolie got past the Brighton defence to head home.

Leicester had the advantage and almost shocked
