Former undisputed world champion Josh Taylor has announced his retirement from boxing due to an eye injury.
Taylor underwent eye surgery last year and doctors advised him to continue the treatment as it could threaten his vision.
The 34-year-old will go down in history as one of Scotland's greatest boxers, having won and unified the world light welterweight titles.
Taylor said in a statement: “As mentioned, I have had recurring problems with my eye and unfortunately I will now have to retire or risk losing my sight.
“While the fighter inside me always wants to keep boxing, I understand that I have to follow medical advice and protect myself from any potential consequences.
“Of course, this is not the way I would like to go out, but I have to listen to the doctors and those around me.”
Taylor, from Prestonpans, turned professional as a boxer a year after winning gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
